Everyone needs a time and a place. It doesn't have to be the same place at the same time for everyone.
Everyone has a purpose in life. They just need to find it. They may need help. I did.
Everyone has a place where they can thrive.

Priorities, where appropriate, Pedestrians first. Non-motorized vehicles next. Then motorized vehicles. But not on the 401; that would be just plain silly. same for other highways
'course, Right Of Way doesn't make you Invincible. If you jump out in front of a moving car, you could quite likely lose. Think. Can they see you? Can they stop in time?
But yes, especially for the bike riders...you should be riding on the road rather than the sidewalk endangering pedestrians, and yourselves...but...there's many city streets I wouldn't want to ride on...you're braver than I am...
...and pedestrians, you have some rules as well...if it says Look and Point....
we like to take shortcuts, and it's so tempting...hard to know what the "cost" is beforehand

Of course we don't understand the younger generation. We really DON'T speak the same language.
Hands up those that were never young.

Vehicle sharing - there's attempts, I'm not aware of how well they work. could be friends, communities, neighbours, colleagues.
Park on the outskirts of downtown/uptown...then walk or bike. Bikes provided by the city, serviced by bike shops? or something like that - maybe sponsorship by corporations...
I still remember seeing horses in Uptown Waterloo...not sure when they were last there...

Don't want to lose these thoughts, but they're not fully formed at the moment:
If you want to change the pattern, change the routine.
If you change the routine, the pattern changes.
by design or accident, I think this works well with construction and traffic patterns.
If your day to day is routine, you don't have to think.
If you have to think, then your day is different, a new experience.
New experiences can be exciting.
If you think tomorrow might be different, you look forward to it.
There may be ties in this to things like autism, alzheimer's, etc. --> if everything's routine, you don't have to think....
At the moment, I don't consider autism a disease.
I consider it a different way of thinking and communicating, and is perhaps magnified by a traumatic experience.

hmmm...maybe that's it

There's salary caps in sports. What about a wealth cap for everyone? the rest gets redistributed, as your charity donation, or whatever...you've obviously found your niche. The rest of us haven't. What a legacy you could leave, now and in the future.

It just occurred to me that McDonald's $1 a drink promotion this summer could/should be viewed as a way of giving back to the communities, to the people, especially during these tough times. Oh yeah, and Harvey's free burger promotion...similar...probably many more...
and btw, this site is powered by Microsoft, for Small Business, for free... I hope to adjust this site soon to match their goals for this service, if I'm not already...
...I continue to see other examples of corporations giving back to their community...not sure whether to show some, all, or none...

The Day The Music Died...
Everyone needs to put groceries on the table...including actors, musicians, software developers, etc, etc.... A $10 CD won't buy much of a meal. A $200 software package might buy a week's worth of groceries. But if everyone bought what they had in their possession...
And not everyone does live shows all the time.
There's also the idea of sponsorship...sponsoring an artist, as an individual, or as a corporation...seems to me they use to have patrons in the "old, old" days...and they do that today as well...but maybe not quite the same...
bands/musicians...find a sponsor...not necessarily a manager or label....more like a venture capitalist, or an angel investor...maybe a "Network of Angels and Friends"
and how about some to "YOU" and some to your favourite charity? maybe 10% of the first $10,000 to the local foodbank, 15% of the next $40,000...etc...or something like that...
for those that have made it, well, you know what to do, and might already be doing it
thru Long & McQuade, I've just become aware of Liam Titcomb, who is currently traveling across Canada to raise money for War Child, an international charity that provides urgent humanitarian support for war-affected children around the world. http://www.liamtitcomb.com/warchild/ Excellent !

Not sure about radio yet, what a good model might be. maybe it might flow out of the rest.
Maybe radio should no longer be free...all subscription based, part of satellite...with perhaps ability to select individual songs when accessing via internet. maybe not...
maybe we just continue to support our local radio stations...and that will help muscians direction with some royalties, I believe

Charities...
I believe in supporting charities. But I wonder...is supporting a Cancer or Alzheimer charity almost like buying an insurance policy...just in case we happen to get something, then maybe they'll solve it soon for us...and oh yeah, there's the tax receipt....
is there enough for the homeless or less fortunate???, especially the youth, that could have so much more life ahead of them, but for some reason have not found a good "road"...oh, and if they find that road, then they become more part of the "normal" society, that happens to shop at malls, etc, etc....

White lies...a difficult concept for many of those with Asperger's Syndrome.
Sarcasm...a difficult concept for many of those with Asperger's Syndrome.
Non-verbal and subtle language queues - difficult for many of those with Asperger's Syndrome to pick up on
we're all different, including those with ADD, Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, etc...
A quotation from Jude Welton's book..."Can I tell you about Asperger Syndrome? A guide for friends and family"....
"You can't see that I have Asperger Syndrome. I look like most other boys. But you might notice things about me that are a bit different. This is because AS can make me behave and talk a bit differently from the way you might expect. Like everyone else, people with AS are individuals, and AS affects each person a bit differently. So other children with AS will be like me in lots of ways, but not exactly the same.
then there's also the cute little phrases or references that we develop thru relationships, which do not mean the same thing to others.
"Acting" in real life...a very confusing concept for those with Asperger's Syndrome.
"Is it my fault that you lied to me...and I believed you???"
something that doesn't ring quite true...can be a good thing...something I've learned in the last couple of years...

Pleasure...yeah, I hear ya...Carbon Credits.

more on smoking soon...this has multiple steps...
first... Use at YOUR Own Risk (Not anyone else's)...
outside - no control over the smoke - especially in public areas.
so inside - specific buildings - Smokers Only Allowed....maybe a small industry providing small portable "Smoke Houses" for malls, service centres etc.
for those at home with children - maybe it's time to decide on priorities...
btw, I was a long-term smoker who quit before his second marriage.
health care concerns? maybe we start considering maximums and/or deductibles under certain circumstances, similar to Group Health and Dental plans
